Almost at my first weight checkpoint!

BW 240.4

Look up — yup. ALMOST below 240#! I cant remember the last time I weighed in under that number. On top of that, the Zone has been good to me and the woman. Lots more energy, who needs 5 hour energy to get rid of “that 2:30″ feeling?

Anywho, I’m proud of me. Now to just keep this trend a rolling and add in some exercise. Oh yeah, that number has just been from dietary changes alone. Too damn hot to run outside, spose I could always go rowing at the gym…

Entering the Zone

BW: 245.4
BF: 34.9%

Yesterday made for my first full day “in the zone” in about 2 years. For those that don’t know, it’s a “method of eating” (I hate calling it a diet, since I don’t plan on coming off it anytime) focusing on fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, lean meats and dairy– little if any grain or processed foods.

After packing a good breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for work, the woman (hey, she calls me “the man” in her blogs) surprised me with a wonderful “zone approved” dinner of beef enchiladas! I’m pretty sure she is as excited to be in the zone as I am!

Results: feeling more mentally alert and full of energy throughout the whole day instead of dragging halfway through. Check it out some if you want to and google “Barry sears zone”. That should get you there.

Going Forward

Yup, two posts in one day, because I’m awesome.

So, the Woman and I are looking to start Zoning together tomorrow– guess who wins big points with me for that… In addition, the crossfit workout I did last week I think may have given me a bit of a spark, and I’m planning on doing the Workout of the Day (WOD) tonight after work, while she enjoys the Astros game.
Check it out www.crossfit.com
Yup, it will suck, and it will be embarrassingly slow, but that has to happen before I can have times and records I am truly proud of.

Who knows, maybe the zero readers of my blog will be treated to a third post in the same day later tonight.

Baseline established

Meant to put this up a week ago, meh. I completed my “first” crossfit workout, called a crossfit total. It’s kinda a baseline in strength. I added in a 3km row to get a baseline for endurance as well, since both are vital.

CFT score: 585
3km row: 14:03

Link shows my path and stats. Pretty slow I know, so I’m going to go ahead and play the “I’m a fatty and out of practice” card.

Still, better than nothing!

Cha-Ching

Is there and emote for blowing the dust off of something? There should be. Someone invent it. NOW!

Yeah, so– been a rough few months since that first post, but the VA finally gave me my back-pay that owed since December, meaning I was able to go out and get REAL FOOD! No longer do I have to eat ramen twice a day! My food of choice, you ask? The Zone– To quote my Grail of fitness on their “diet” recommendations

“In plain language, base your diet on garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, nuts and seeds, little starch, and no sugar. That’s about as simple as we can get. Many have observed that keeping your grocery cart to the perimeter of the grocery store while avoiding the aisles is a great way to protect your health. Food is perishable. The stuff with long shelf life is all suspect. If you follow these simple guidelines you will benefit from nearly all that can be achieved through nutrition.”

Jump to the link directly here, it’s a GREAT, fast, and easy to understand method to the madness listed above: http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/start-diet.html

So yeah, the Zone– for lack of better words, its a Method of eating that to me, just makes sense. It’s like the fad Atkins Diet, except carbs aren’t the enemy, just get them from fruits and veggies! it also does that 5 “meals” per day like other diets.

Speaking of Diet– I HATE that word or phrase, at least the modern usage of it. Think about it, a Diet is merely what you eat. that’s it. so to say I am on a diet is just silly, and it makes me just get images of Jenny Craig or that nutrisystem crap. News flash: If you are eating, you are on a diet.

So the big to do with all of this? It’s game on. Top of the first inning and for the first time in two years, I feel like I have the home team advantage.

Lets kick this pig!

In the Beginning….

Day One:

BW:  242#  BF: 34%

Well, I’ve been making excuses for months now. So heres another crack at the whole “going back to the gym” thing.

A little about me for those who don’t know me. I’m a 25 year old 5′ 10″ Texan guy who was shown the door by the Navy about 6 months ago. It wasn’t a bad breakup per se. Let’s just say there was a difference of opinion between me and some high ranking guys in D.C. (A story for another day). Anyway, two years ago I was in amazing shape, at least in my book. No, I wasn’t a supermodel or a candidate for that Jersey Shore show but I was pretty damn good looking. A couple run-ins with the law caused my Officer Package to be pulled and set me off on a tailspin with no motivation.

So, this is a record of me searching for my motivation again to get back to where I was, and hopefully excel beyond that (Hence the Title). I suppose there are a lot of  reasons people strive for fitness: health, looks, confidence, sex, hobby, etc. I don’t know exactly what my source will be, but I do remember back when I was hitting it hard and loving it…. well, that was it, I Loved doing it. It provided it’s own motivation. Who knows, maybe I’ll find it again.

About this Blog:

Numbers up top are body weight and Body Fat percentage. This is taken on a digital bathroom scale, the numbers can be taken with a grain a salt, what we are focused on is a TREND. I don’t know if this will be updated daily or weekly. And for now, its taken whenever, no specific time yet (baby steps, people!)

In here I’m going to talk about what I do daily, specifically exercise, what I eat, etc. I’ll try to keep it away from just a list etc, because lets face it, that would bore us all. Instead I’ll focus on my techniques, attitudes, tips I find, and so on

I love cooking, there will likely be a lot of food talk in here.
